BOX SCORES: Game 1 | Game 2

ROUND ROCK, Texas --
Freshman right-handed pitcher #Haylee Staton# took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the first game of a doubleheader and eventually led the Concordia University Texas softball team to a 1-0 win over visiting Howard Payne.  The Tornados (20-12, 14-4 ASC) completed the doubleheader sweep with a walk-off 2-1 win in the nightcap.

Staton dazzled in the circle in the opener, throwing only 88 pitches and giving up her first hit in the sixth, just four outs away from a no-hitter.  She gave up one more hit in the seventh and struck out six batters.

The Tornados helped Staton improve her record to 8-4 by pushing across a run in the third inning.  #Elizabeth Rojo# doubled to lead off the inning and moved on to third after a sacrifice bunt from #Jana Tritz#.  #Vicky Recek# singled to plate Rojo and give Staton the only run she would need.

In the nightcap, Concordia won another closely contested game as #Lauren Vansickle# singled to left field, which scored #Erin Duhon# from third base for the winning run.

HPU (9-20, 6-14 ASC) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning by manufacturing a run.  The Yellow Jackets received a single, a stolen base and sacrifice bunt to get a runner to third.  She was driven in by the next batter to grab the one-run lead.  However, Concordia wasted no time in staying even with Howard Payne as the Tornados pushed across an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.  #Jessica Rattan# scored as #Meghan Ferrell# reached on a fielding error by the shortstop.

Following a two and a half scoreless innings, the Tornados received the walk-off hit from Vansickle to complete the sweep.

#Lyssa Yates# improved to 6-5 on the year after hurling a complete game, while scattering seven hits and allowing the one run.  Vansickle and Duhon paced CTX at the plate with a pair of hits.

The Tornados and Yellow Jackets will meet again on Sunday for a doubleheader to finish the four-game series.  Game time from Old Settlers Park is scheduled for 12 p.m.
