BOX SCORE
AUSTIN, Texas ---
Lyle Dixon and
Piri Rabadan scored goals for Concordia University Texas as the Tornados cruised to a 2-0 win against Southwestern Assemblies of God in non-conference action Saturday evening.
CTX is now 2-1 on the year while the loss brings SAGU's current record to 3-2.
The mid-field of Concordia was in control early as
Sebastian Parra lofted a beautiful pass over the SAGU defense to
Drew Kasper that nearly resulted in the first goal of the match. Just 10 minutes later Parra found success when he squeezed a corner kick into the box where
Lyle Dixon connected perfectly on a header that gave the Tornados a 1-0 lead.
In the second period neither team was able to garner many scoring chances until local product
Piri Rabadan booted an absolute strike from 40 yards out to stretch Concordia's advantage to 2-0. Southwestern Assemblies of God then tried to push the pace but the back-line of the Tornados fought off two late scoring opportunities to give CTX a 2-0 win.
Goalkeeper
Jacob Stern posted his second shutout of the season as the junior made 5 saves in the match. Concordia finished with 11 shots including six shots on goal while SAGU ended with 10 shots overall and 5 shots made on goal.
Head Coach Wes Schever's squad will look to continue their strong play Sunday as they host Austin College in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's Episcopal School Field.
