BOX SCORE
AUSTIN, Texas --- The CTX men's soccer team improved to 3-3-0, 1-1-0 ASC on the year as the Tornados picked up a 2-1 victory over McMurry, 0-7-0, 0-2-0 ASC Saturday afternoon in Austin.
In a match that was not nearly as close as the final score indicated, Concordia used two first period goals and held off a scrappy McMurry squad for the victory.
CTX drew first blood in the 11th minute when
Oscar Diaz picked up a pass from
Brian Friend near the middle of the box and sent it past the MCM goalkeeper to give the Tornados a 1-0 lead.
Junior
John Ricks then guided a superb lob over the head of th McMurry defense that
Brandon Lopez collected, guided to his right foot and struck a low liner that found the back of the net to allow Concordia to head into the half with a 2-0 advantage.
Concordia attempted five shots on goal in the second period, but was unable to score including two bullets from
Drew Kasper that both hit the post. In the 88th minute McMurry made the score 2-1 when Ryan Prince put up a shot from just inside mid-field that was mishandled by CTX goalkeeper
Todd Edgington. The freshman collected himself nicely however, as he made a save in the 90th minute to preserve the 2-1 victory.
For the match Concordia recorded 15 shots (five on goal) as compared to 18 from McMurry (eight on goal), including seven shots from freshman Everton Pinnock.
The Tornados will travel to Howard Payne and the Mary Hardin-Baylor this week in two ASC contests. HPU will be at 4:00 p.m. Friday and UMHB will take place at 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
