Softball Looks to Stay on a Roll Against Sul Ross State This Weekend; Webcasts Available

Austin, Texas – Winners of seven of their last eight, the Concordia University Texas softball team will look to stay on a roll when Sul Ross State visits Old Settler's Park for a four-game series on March 18-19. Forever Video Productions is looking to webcast the action with Sports Information Director Matthew Chmura on the call.

Concordia (12-6, ASC 3-1), which was predicted to finish third in the American Southwest Conference West Division, enters this weekend's action in third place after winning three road games at Schreiner last weekend. The Tornados. who have relied on a young pitching staff and a veteran group to provide hitting and defense to begin their 2011 campaign on a high note, have gone through a brutal schedule which has included playing eight contests against 2010 NCAA teams during a 10-game stretch. Teylor Schiefelbein and Kat Moreno have been the team's regular starters in the circle and boast earned run averages of 2.28 and 2.35, respectively. Schiefelbein, who has won her last four starts, has a 6-2 ledger with 28 strikeouts in 55.1 innings of work ... Moreno has 43 strikeouts, which is tied for third in the ASC, and most recently hurled a one-hit shutout in her last start. Jessica Rattan, who set the school record for home runs against Sul Ross State last season, leads the offense with a .500 average. Eleven of her 19 hits have been for extra bases. Jordan Berry, a freshman who was named the NFCA National Player of the Week on March 9, has a .306 average, while Meghan Ferrell is batting .308 with a team-best 15 RBI. Lauren Vansickle, who is hitting at a .298 clip, had eight hits and batted .524 in the Schreiner series and will enter the weekend as the team's most productive hitter in recent games.

Sul Ross State (0-14, ASC 0-4), which was tabbed seventh in the American Southwest Conference West Division Preseason Poll, enters this weekend's action in search of its first win. The Lobos have had 11 of their 14 games, including 10 of their last 11, end after five innings due to the eight-run rule. The squad's losing streak dating back to the 2010 season currently stands at 18. Sierra Cook and Betsy Anderson lead a pitching staff which is surrendering 13.7 runs per game and has a 12.80 earned run average. Cook has a 9.80 ERA and an 0-4 ledger, while Anderson is 0-8 with a 14.52 ERA. Anderson, who has hurled 27 innings, has issued 36 walks while allowing 67 hits. Lamar Rodriguez is pacing the offense, batting .394 with a team-best 13 hits. Jourdan Sanchez, Gabreila Cordero and Daniella Valenzuela have eight hits apiece, while Anderson leads the squad with six RBI.
