GAME TWO BOX SCORE

Round Rock, Texas
– Pitchers Kat Moreno and Alexis Lynn teamed up for a no-hitter to close out a four-game series as the Concordia University Texas softball team completed another twinbill sweep of Sul Ross State on Saturday, March 19 at Old Settler's Park. The Tornados won the opener, 7-0, by only allowing one Lobo player to record a hit before taking the nightcap by an 8-0 decision to extend their winning streak to seven straight games.

Concordia (16-6, ASC 7-1) raced to a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, scoring all of the runs with two outs. Erin Duhon singled to send home the first run before Megan Ferrell followed with a two-run double to the corner in right field. Alex Smith doubled in another run on the next play before the Tornados were finally retired to batters later.

The Tornados scored their final three runs in the bottom of the fourth to get all the insurance they needed while Teylor Schiefelbein was throwing a no-hitter. Lauren Vansickle hit a two-run double, which took a Tornado bounce in left, and came home on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Berry.

Schiefelbein, who has hurled 16 scoreless innings as well as 14 frames without issuing a walk, was credited with her sixth straight victory for Concordia to improve her record to 8-2. She did not allow a hit or a walk over five innings while only allowing one opposing player to reach base on an infield error in the fourth. Teshia Krause relieved Schiefelbein and kept the Lobos off the board over the final two frames. Sul Ross State's Betsy Anderson was tagged with the loss and fell to 0-10 after giving up nine hits and seven runs that were all earned.

In the nightcap, Moreno rung up seven of the first eight hitters she faced before Daniella Vanzuela managed to draw a walk following a lengthy plate appearance in the bottom of the third. Meanwhile, the Tornado offense came alive from the get-go and plated four runs in the bottom of the first for the second straight game. Jessica Rattan hit a two-run single up the middle with only one out to start the scoring, and Ferrell doubled the lead by blasting her second home run of the season over the fence in left.

With Moreno still throwing another gem and not allowing the ball to leave the infield until there was one out in the top of the fourth, Concordia was able to pad its lead by scoring three more times in the bottom half of the third to go ahead by seven. After consecutive singles by Berry, Rattan and Duhon loaded the bases, Ferrell groundout out to short to force in one run. That set the stage for Smith, who hit a two-run single to deep left that blew the game open.

After an RBI single by Berry in the next inning made it an 8-0 score, Lynn relieved Moreno in the circle and retired all three hitters she faced in the top of the fifth to end the game due to the eight-run rule and seal the team's 11th win in the last 12 games.

Concordia's Moreno fired four shutout innings, fanning eight hitters and only walking one, to pick up the victory and improve to 7-4 before Lynn shut the door in the fifth and final frame. Josephine Borrego, who made her second collegiate start in as many days for Sul Ross State (0-18, ASC 0-8), suffered the defeat after giving up four runs and five hits in the first inning.

Concordia, which has only allowed two runs in its last six games, will look to stay on a roll when it visits Texas Lutheran for a four-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Thursday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
