Teylor Schiefelbein won her eighth straight decision by hurling her second collegiate shutout to lead the Concordia University Texas softball team to a 13-0 six-inning win in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Texas Lutheran on Saturday, March 26 at Morck Field. The Bulldogs won the first game, 3-1, earlier in the day.

After having its nine-game winning streak snapped earlier in the day, Concordia (19-7, ASC 10-2) got on the board quickly by scoring twice in the top of the first inning of the nightcap. Jessica Rattan drew a bases-loaded walk, which scored Lauren Vansickle, before Alex Smith singled three batters to double the Tornado lead.

While Schiefelbein was in the process of pitching a shutout, the Tornado offense gave her an additional four runs of support in the fourth to build up a six-run cushion for the freshman. Rattan and Erin Duhon registered a two-run double and a two-run single, respectively, to make it a six-run game.

Leading 7-0 through five innings following an RBI single by Recek, Concordia put the game away by punching in six runs in the top of the sixth. Rattan started the scoring with a solo home run, forcing the Bulldogs to change pitchers, before Alexis Lynn came home following two wild throws by Megan Carmichael.

Another defensive miscue by the Bulldogs allowed Concordia to take a double-digit advantage, but the Tornado offense wasn't done yet with padding its lead. Vansickle blasted an RBI triple and Recek drove in another run on a single to produce the final outcome.

Schiefelbein won her eighth straight decision to improve her record to 10-2 on the year for Concordia. She yielded seven hits and fanned three hitters. In addition to registering her second shutout of the season, the freshman ended the weekend having gone 26 innings without allowing an earned run to score and 24 frames without issuing a walk. Texas Lutheran's Jordan Mundine dropped to 4-8 overall after allowing 14 hits and eight runs, which were all earned, over five innings of work.

Earlier in the day, Texas Lutheran (8-16, ASC 1-7) scored all three of the runs it needed in the third to come away with its first conference win of the season. Katie Livanec started the scoring with a two-run double, and Lindsay Carroll sent in the last run on a sacrifice fly.

Concordia did not go down with a fight, however, and made an attempt to rally in the top of the seventh. Rattan was able to score Vansickle on a sacrifice fly with two outs, sending Duhon to the plate with the tying run at first. But the sophomore third baseman was unable to come through and flew out to right to end the game.

Concoerdia's Kat Moreno, who came two outs shy of hurling a no-hitter on Thursday, was tagged with the loss and fell to 8-5. She allowed three hits and three runs, which were all earned, over four innings while striking out one. Teshia Krause pitched two scoreless innings of relief to keep the Tornados in the game. Texas Lutheran's Megan Carmichael registered the win and upped her record to 4-7. She surrendered seven hits and one run that was earned.

Concordia returns to action when it hosts Hardin-Simmons for a pivotal ASC four-game series at Old Settler's Park, which begins with a doubleheader on Thursday, March 31 at 5 p.m.
