Austin, Texas - The Concordia University Texas softball team will face Mary Hardin-Baylor in a home-and-home series on Apr. 21-22 with its playoff hopes on the line. The Tornados, who will honor seniors Jessica Rattan and Vicky Recek before today's twinbill at Old Settler's Park, have to win one of the four games to qualify for next week's American Southwest Conference Tournament. Forever Video Productions will webcast all four games with Sports Information Director Matthew Chmura on the call.

Concordia (22-14, ASC 13-7) has relied on a young pitching staff consisting of four underclassmen - Kat Moreno, Teylor Schiefelbein, Teshia Krause and Alexis Lynn - and its defense to find success this spring. The team's earned run average of 2.39 ranks fourth in the league behind Louisiana College and East Texas Baptist, which are both nationally ranked, and Mary Hardin-Baylor, while the squad's .966 fielding percentage is third in the ASC. Schiefelbein, who has been named the ASC West Division Pitcher of the Week twice this season, and Moreno have been the team's regular starters in the circle and boast earned run averages of 2.02 and 2.77, respectively. Schiefelbein has an 11-5 ledger with 51 strikeouts. She was named the division's co-pitcher of the week yesterday after hurling a no-hitter last Friday against Howard Payne in which she faced one batter over the minimum over six innings of work... Moreno ranks tied for fifth in the ASC with 83 strikeouts. Rattan, who was named the institution's Female Student-Athlete of the Year on Tuesday night, leads the offense with a .464 average and has been one of the league's top power hitters this spring.Twenty-one of her 39 hits have been for extra bases, which includes 14 doubles, two triples and five home runs. Jordan Berry, a freshman who was named the NFCA National Player of the Week on March 9, has a .346 average, while Meghan Ferrell is batting .294 with two home runs and 26 RBI. Veterans Lauren Vansickle, who had a walkoff home run against the Cru last season, and Recek round out the four regular starters batting over .300.

Mary Hardin-Baylor (26-10, ASC 19-1) clinched the West Division crown and one of the top seeds for the upcoming ASC Tournament by sweeping Hardin-Simmons last weekend, which included an 18-1 five-inning victory in the second game. The Cru, whose only setback over their last 20 games was a 6-4 loss to Texas Lutheran on Apr. 9, have been paced by Erica White. The senior, who is arguably the front runner for ASC West Division Pitcher of the Year honors, leads all of the league's hurlers with an 0.60 earned run average. She also boasts a 15-1 record with 83 strikeouts. Caitlin Wells is batting a team-best .400 in 31 appearances and 23 starts, while Hannah White has a .390 average and leads the squad with 10 home runs and 39 RBI. Her home run total is tied for first in the ASC.
