Men’s Soccer Defeats East Texas Baptist, 3-1, for First Conference Win

Sebastian Parra scored his first goal of the season and Nick Martin made six saves as the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team rallied to defeat East Texas Baptist by a 3-1 score on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Town & Country. The Tornados picked up their first conference win of the season.

After Juan Ramirez put East Texas Baptist (3-4, ASC 2-2) on the board at the midway point of the first half, Parra took a shot from midfield that tied the match at 1-all in the 30th minute. The teams would stay deadlocked into the recess.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Concordia (2-3-1, ASC 1-2) took a lead it would not relinquish when Christian Fredrickson converted a penalty kick. Kolby Graff set up Derek Tijerina for an insurance tally in the 66th minute to produce the final score.

Martin picked up the victory by making six stops on 14 shot attempts for Concordia. East Texas Baptist's Austin Walker turned away two of the 16 shots he faced.

Concordia will host Austin College at Vandegrift High School's Monroe Stadium tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
