Texas Lutheran Sweeps Doubleheader Against CTX Softball

Jessica Parish recorded two hits, but the Concordia University Texas softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Texas Lutheran by 4-0 and 5-0 decisions on Friday, March 29 at Old Settler's Park.

After Concordia left two runners on base in each of the opener's first two innings, Texas Lutheran got on the board in the top of the third inning when a sacrifice fly by Brittany Upton plated Molly Gorrie. The Bulldogs then added doubled their lead in the fifth and pushed across two more runs in the sixth to pull away.

Kat Moreno took the loss for Concordia and fell to 8-4 after giving up six hits and four runs, including three earned, over seven innings of work. She recorded four strikeouts and issued four walks. Texas Lutheran's Katelyn Sanders earned the win and moved her record up to 13-2. The freshman pitched 4.2 shutout innings and allowed four hits while striking out three and walking two.

Sydney Coffey was tagged with the loss for Concordia and dropped to 2-4 despite yielding just one hit and one run, which was unearned, while striking out three and not issuing a walk in five innings of work. Megan Carmichael of Texas Lutheran earned the shutout win by allowing two hits, striking out five and issuing just one free pass.

Concordia (15-11, ASC 4-8) visits Sul Ross State for a four-game series on Apr. 5-6. The first contest of the series is slated to be played on Friday at 5 p.m.
