ALPINE, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team pushed American Southwest Conference (ASC) co-leader Hardin-Simmons to a fifth set, but the Tornados were unable to knock off the Cowgirls. Hardin-Simmons won the contest by scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-14, 21-25 and 15-5.
Despite being limited to a .079 hitting percentage, Concordia Texas (4-8, 1-2 ASC) won the first and fourth frames to force the match to go the distance.
Katie Baker and Sam Ladewig eached registered double-doubles to lead the Tornados. Baker posted a match-high 11 kills to go along with her 16 digs, while Ladewig dished out a match-high 29 assists and collected 17 stops.
Emily Powers and Zöe Allen eached chipped in defensively with 25 and 24 digs, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Cowgirls (10-7, 5-0 ASC) received double-doubles from Molli Owen and Tucker Smith. Owen handed out 17 helpers and netted 11 digs, while Smith posted 17 assists and 12 stops.
Concordia will wrap up its weekend action on Saturday. The Tornados will play Howard Payne (10-5, 2-3 ASC) at 10 a.m. and league co-leader Texas-Dallas (11-5, 5-0 ASC).
