Tornados drop two league matches on Saturday

ALPINE, Texas – The Concordia University Texas volleyball team dropped a pair of American Southwest Conference (ASC) matches at the Gallego Center on Saturday. The Tornados were defeated in five sets by Howard Payne and swept by Texas-Dallas.

Concordia Texas (4-10, 1-4 ASC) will return to the court on Friday, Oct. 4, when it opens a weekend of four league tilts in Marshall, Texas. The Tornados will play East Texas Baptist, LeTourneau, Mississippi College and Texas-Tyler in a two-day span.


MATCH ONE
Howard Payne (11-4, 3-3 ASC) needed all five frames to hold off Concordia, as the Lady Jackets won the contest by scores of 25-21, 17-25, 27-25, 15-25 and 15-7.

Katie Baker led the Tornados with a double-double effort, which included 16 digs and 12 kills.

Howard Payne racked up 102 digs and limited Concordia to just a .085 hitting percentage in the contest.

Sarah Bishop logged a match-high 13 winners for the Lady Jackets, while Shelby Bridges collected 32 digs.


MATCH TWO
The Tornados again struggled on the offensive attack, hitting only .053 against Texas-Dallas (12-6, 6-1 ASC). The Lady Comets claimed the sweep by scores of 25-19, 26-24, 25-17.

Sam Ladewig handed out 22 assists for CTX, while Zöe Allen led a quartet of Tornados into double-digit digs with 18.

Meanwhile, Texas-Dallas received 20 helpers from Kayla Jordan and a match-high 20 stops from Mary Speights.
