AUSTIN, Texas – Hardin-Simmons rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win the final two frames and knock off the Concordia University Texas volleyball team in five sets on Tuesday night. The Cowgirls won the American Southwest Conference match by scores of 17-25, 25-19, 13-25, 26-24 and 15-9.
The Tornados (10-10, 5-5 ASC) nearly ended the match following a thrilling fourth set.
Hardin-Simmons (6-11, 5-6 ASC) raced out to an 18-9 lead in the panel, but a 14-5 by Concordia Texas tied the match at 23-all. After each team traded a pair of points, the Cowgirls earned a kill and forced an attack error to close out the frame.
The momentum for the visitors carried into the final panel.
Hardin-Simmons broke a 7-7 tie by scoring three consecutive points. The Cowgirls then registered five of the final seven tallies to finish off the contest.
Hannah Horsby and Corrie Reeder each posted 14 kills to pace Hardin-Simmons.
Meanwhile,
Katie Baker and
Jordan Redmond also netted 14 winners to lead the Tornados. Redmond also hit a season-high .522 on 23 attack attempts in the match.
Zoe Allen handed out a match-high 43 assists and collected 12 digs to complete a double-double, while
Cassie Dominguez led the defensive effort with a match-best 19 digs.
Concordia will resume play on Friday, when the squad travels to I-35 rival and 23rd-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Belton.
