TYLER, Texas – Leandro Fernandez scored a goal in the 21st minute and it stood up to lead Texas-Tyler to a 1-0 win over the Concordia University Texas men's soccer team in an American Southwest Conference (ASC) contest on Friday night.
Fernandez placed his shot inside the far post on the ground to score the unassisted goal.
The Patriots (7-3-4, 3-3-2 ASC) tallied 14 shots in the match, seven in each half.
The Tornados (5-7-2, 0-4-2 ASC) attempted nine shots, including three on goal.
Marc Kouassi (pictured) and
Alejandro Labastida each took two shots, while Labastida,
Matthew Butler and
Marshal Tucker each forced Texas-Tyler goalkeeper John McGuffin to make a save.
McGuffin tallied three saves to record the clean sheet.
Kyle Duncan came up with three saves, as well.
Concordia Texas will play at LeTourneau on Saturday. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m. in Longview.
