KERRVILLE, Texas – Behind career nights from
Rashad Coleman and
Andre Potts, the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team cruised to a 103-86 win over Schreiner on Saturday at Edington Gymnasium.
Potts tallied a career-high 29 points and knocked down seven 3-pointers to lead the scoring onslaught. The senior guard scored 22 of his game-high 29 points in the first half after hitting six triples. Potts ended the contest 10-of-14 from the field, including 7-of-9 from downtown. He also hit a pair of free throws.
Coleman registered a career-best 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. The San Antonio native also connected on 5-of-6 shots form the free-throw line. Coleman added a game-high six assists, three rebounds and a steal.
The Tornados (2-1) shot a season-best 61 percent (36-of-59) from the field in the victory, including 48.4 percent (15-of-31) from beyond the arc.
Concordia Texas rode Potts' opening-half performance to a 58-39 lead at intermission. The Tornados shot 67.9 percent (19-for-28) in the first half, including 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from downtown.
Concordia never trailed in the contest. The Mountaineers (2-1) tied the score at 8-8 following Christian Peña's 3-pointer with 14:47 left in the opening period. However, CTX took the lead for good on the ensuing possession, as
Josh Sanchez converted a traditional thee-point play after being fouled on a made layup.
The Tornados stretched their advantage to 50-25 with 2:27 to play in the first half after
Brett DeMetrotion converted a pair of free throws.
Arty Vela put in two free throws with 2:26 left in the game to give Concordia its largest lead (103-78).
DeMetrotion and Sanchez bolstered the Tornados' offensive attack, as both registered double figures. DeMetrotion netted 13 in his season debut, while Sanchez logged 11.
Concordia will resume action on Monday, Dec. 1, as the team returns to Austin to host Trinity. The non-conference tilt is slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Concordia Fieldhouse.
POSTGAME NOTES• The Tornados topped the 100-point mark for the second time this season, increasing the team's scoring average to 101.7 points per game.
• CTX improved to 37-32 all-time against Schreiner.
• The Tornados scored 100+ points for the 18th time against the Mountaineers.
• All 18 players who suited up for Concordia checked in to Saturday's game.

Brett DeMetrotion made his 2014-15 debut on Saturday. The 6-foot-7 forward missed the first two games due to injury. DeMetrotion pulled down a team-high six rebounds, in addition to his 13 points.

Dominic Countee scored a season-high nine points in 13 minutes off the bench.
• Concordia's 15 3-pointers on Saturday were the most by the squad since hitting 15 against the same Mountaineers on Feb. 9, 2013.
