Sul Ross State rallies to edge Concordia Texas in ASC opener, 49-48

ALPINE, Texas – Sul Ross State rallied to erase a six-point deficit in the second half to edge the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team 49-48 in an American Southwest Conference (ASC) on Thursday at the Gallego Center.

Isis Johnson scored a game-high 16 points to pace the Tornados (0-4, 0-1 ASC). Nadine Fadelle added 10 points and collected six steals.

Concordia Texas shot only 30.8 percent (20-of-65) from the floor, including just 7.1 percent (1-of-14) from beyond the arc.

The Tornados took a 41-40 lead after Isis Johnson hit a jumper with 4:23 remaining in the game. However, Desare Allen hit a layup less than a minute later to give the Lady Lobos a one-point advantage. Miranda Roberts then connected on the first of her two free throw attempts to extend the lead to 43-41.

Concordia tied the game at 43-43 after Kia Love knocked down a jumper with only 0:58 remaining.

On the ensuing possession, Sul Ross State reclaimed the lead, as Ashley Ousley grabbed an offensive rebound and then hit a layup with 0:25 to play. The Lady Lobos stretched their lead to four points before Camille Horman hit a 3-pointer as time expired to conclude the contest.

Ivette Trujillo led Sul Ross State with 10 points, while Allen added nine points and a game-high 11 boards.

The Tornados will return to action on Saturday, as the squad travels to Brownwood to face Howard Payne. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Brownwood Coliseum.
