CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – Behind a pair of strong pitching performances and timely hitting, the Concordia University Texas softball team claimed a doubleheader from Ozarks on Saturday to complete the four-game sweep at Hurie Softball Field. The Tornados won the opening game 5-1 and posted a 7-1 victory in the nightcap.
Zalysa Perez and
Sydney Coffey combined to hold the Lady Eagles (0-4, 0-3 ASC) to only two runs (both unearned) on the day. Perez (2-0) scattered six hits and struck out two in a complete-game effort in the opening tilt. Coffey (1-0) allowed seven hits and a pair of walks, but fanned three and also went the distance to earn the win.
Meanwhile, Concordia Texas' offense again was clicking on all cylinders. The Tornados battered Ozarks' pitching staff to the tune of a .361 batting average (22-for-61) on Saturday. CTX posted three doubles and 10 RBIs in the doubleheader.
Freshman
Hanna Contreras led the way with a 5-for-6 performance that included a double and two RBIs. Senior
Katie Carrizales chipped in with six hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Carrizales also stole a pair of bases and scored three times.
Concordia will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 18, in a non-conference doubleheader against George Fox. The Tornados' home opener is slated to begin at 11 a.m. at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
