ALPINE, Texas – Hanna Contreras and
Alyssa Serna both homered to lead the Concordia University Texas softball team to a 16-2 victory over Sul Ross State in the American Southwest Conference (ASC) series finale at Lady Lobo Field.
The Tornados (8-6, 6-3 ASC), who pounded out a season-high 17 hits, scored multiple runs in four of the seven innings, including a seven-run seventh to pull away.
Contreras continued her hot streak with a 3-for-4 performance that included a double and a two-run homer, her fourth of the season. Serna's only hit was a three-run round-tripper in the seventh. The local product out of Austin High School drove in a game-high four runs.
Alexis Lynn added two hits, including a double, and three RBIs, while
Katie Carrizales also had a pair of base knocks, including a triple.
Concordia Texas opened the scoring with a three-run second.
Contreras and
Katie Schmidt led off with back-to-back hits. Lynn then drove in Contreras on an infield single and, two batters later,
Jessica Borrego produced a two-run single to give the Tornados a 3-0 lead.
CTX scored two more in the third on Contreras' dinger, four in the fourth and seven in the final frame.
Zalysa Perez (5-3) picked up the win in the circle after holding the Lady Lobos (0-12, 0-9 ASC) to two runs and a pair of hits in five stanzas.
Sydney Coffey hurled a pair of scoreless innings to close out the contest.
Heather Arias picked up two of Sul Ross State's five hits.
Keri McShan (0-7) again was on the losing end after giving up nine runs on nine hits in 3.2 panels.
The Tornados will return to action on Friday, March 7, in the first of a three-game series against Hardin-Simmons. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
