AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team will attempt to get back to its winning ways this weekend in a three-game American Southwest Conference series against Howard Payne. The set is scheduled to open with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and conclude with a single game at 12 p.m. the following day. All three games are slated to take place at Cedar Park High School.
The Tornados (9-11, 7-8 ASC) have lost five of their last six games, and the squad was swept in a three-game series last weekend at Mississippi College. Concordia Texas is hitting .307, which is good for sixth in the league, and the team's 4.76 ERA ranks ninth.
Jessic Parish leads the Tornados' lineup with a .491 batting average to go along with six doubles, a homer and 19 RBIs.
Katie Carrizales is batting .369 with a team-high seven doubles, while
Hanna Contreras as clubbed four home runs and driven in 18.
Sydney Coffey leads Concordia's pitching staff with a 3.04 ERA in 53 innings of work. The right-hander also has posted a 3-5 record with 25 strikeouts and five complete games.
The Lady Jackets (2-17, 1-14 ASC) have suffered 15 consecutive losses, including a sweep at the hands of Texas-Dallas last weekend. Howard Payne's last win came on Feb. 14, a 4-2 decision against LeTourneau. The Lady Jackets are hitting a league-low .171 and have logged a 4.61 ERA.
