CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team pounded out 17 hits and rolled to a 13-3 win in five innings over Howard Payne on Saturday.
The Tornados (12-11, 10-8 ASC) outscored the Lady Jackets (2-20, 1-17 ASC) 37-9 to complete the three-game American Southwest Conference sweep.
Concordia Texas raced out to an 8-1 lead, thanks to a six-run second inning that included a two-run homer from
Hanna Contreras.
Two frames later, the Tornados put a five-spot on the board to grab a 13-1 advantage. CTX racked up six hits in the panel, including a run-scoring double by
Valerie Gonzales.
Howard Payne picked up two runs in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough to extend the game.
Jenna Franz (2-1) picked up the win after scattering six hits and allowing two runs in the complete game.
Tayler Rushing (2-7) suffered the loss after allowing 13 runs (11 earned).
Contreras was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBIs.
Katie Carrizales and
Jessica Parish also collected a trio of knocks. Carrizales added a double and drove in one, while Parish had two RBIs.
The Tornados will host Southwestern in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 25. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
