BELTON, Texas – Hanna Contreras hit three home runs and led the Concordia University Texas softball team to a doubleheader sweep over I-35 rival Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference action on Saturday at Dee Dillon Field. The Tornados won the opener 1-0 and rallied for a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.
Contreras produced the lone run in the first contest with a solo dinger in the top of the seventh inning.
The freshman infielder struck again in the nightcap with a pair of two-run round-trippers – one in the fourth and another in the sixth – to help Concordia Texas (15-12, 12-8 ASC) to a come-from-behind win.
Contreras finished the day 4-for-6 with three home runs and five RBIs to pace the Tornados. Her final homer of the day, which was her 11th of the campaign, tied the program's single-season record that was set by Jessica Rattan in 2009.
In the circle,
Sydney Coffey hurled a four-hit shutout to defeat the Cru (13-12, 10-10 ASC) in the opening game. The right-hander came back in the second contest and pitched 1.1 scoreless panels to earn her first save of the season.
The two teams will conclude the series at 1 p.m. Saturday.
