ROUND ROCK, Texas – Sydney Coffey hurled a shutout and the Concordia University Texas softball team blanked Hardin-Simmons, 3-0, in the series finale on Saturday at Old Settlers Park.
Coffey (3-3) scattered eight hits and struck out four while earning her first shutout of the season. The sophomore allowed only two runners to reach second base and one made it to third.
The Tornados (9-8, 7-5 ASC) backed up the right-hander with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.
Concordia Texas opened the scoring on
Jessica Parish's two-run single in the fourth, which chased home
Katie Carrizales and
Lyndsey Rodriguez.
A frame later, the Tornados manufactured a run.
Katie Schmidt drew a leadoff walk and was moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Alexis Lynn. After a strikeout, Coffey singled to put runners on the corners. Rodriguez then laced a single into center field, allowing Schmidt to score.
Six CTX players registered a hit, while Parish led all players with two RBIs.
Sydnie Darden and Carley Willis each went 2-for-4 to lead the Cowgirls (7-8, 5-7 ASC).
Emily Hardaway (2-4) suffered the loss after giving up three runs on four hits over four stanzas. She also walked five and struck out one.
The Tornados will be back in action next weekend at Mississippi College.
