BOX SCORE TYLER, Texas – Jayme Perez hit a leadoff home run and propelled No. 8 East Texas Baptist to a 4-0 victory over the Concordia University Texas softball team in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Suddenlink Field.
The Tornados (17-24) will play LeTourneau, who lost its opener to second-ranked Texas-Tyler, in an elimination game at 7 p.m.
The Tigers (36-5) doubled their advantage in the second inning when Mallory Westbrook blooped a two-out single down the right-field line to score Kayla Garcia from third.
Four frames later, East Texas Baptist against doubled its lead on a pair of RBI singles by Westbrook and Alexis Padilla.
Shelby Parker (18-4) limited Concordia Texas to just three hits, while going the distance in the shutout.

Sydney Coffey and
Jessica Parish each tallied a single apiece for the Tornados.
Meanwhile, Coffey (7-13) took the loss in the circle after giving up four runs on 11 hits in a complete-game effort.
Westbrook paced the Tigers with a 3-for-3 performance that included two RBIs. Garcia chipped in with two hits, including a double and a triple, while Perez was 1-for-4 with a solo homer.
East Texas Baptist will advance to play Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1 p.m. Friday in a winner's bracket contest.
