AUSTIN, Texas – Kourtney Holyfield drained three 3-pointers, including two in the final minutes, as Hardin-Simmons fought past the Concordia University Texas women's basketball team, 64-55, on Saturday at Concordia Fieldhouse.
Isis Johnson hit a pair of free throws with 3:31 left, pulling the Tornados (5-9, 4-6 ASC) to 52-50, but the Cowgirls (7-8, 5-5 ASC) scored seven straight, including back-to-back 3-pointers by Holyfield.
Concordia Texas was able to cut the lead to 60-55 after
Nadine Fadelle knocked down a triple, but was unable to score in the final 43 seconds, as Hardin-Simmons hit four consecutive free throws to clinch the victory.
Johnson led all scorers with 20 points, while Fadelle chipped in with 17.
Sara Vargas posted a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Cowgirls. Holyfield added 11 and Taylor Klement scored 10.
The Tornados will resume play on Thursday, Jan. 22, against Howard Payne. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
