AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team picked up a 56-52 victory over Howard Payne on Thursday evening at Concordia Fieldhouse.
The Tornados (6-9, 5-6 ASC) forced 26 turnovers and led for more than 32 minutes en route to snapping a two-game skid.
Nadine Fadelle scored a team-high 19 points, in addition to six rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Isis Johnson tallied 13 points and eight boards, while
Kia Love chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Danyel Bradley paced the Lady Jackets (8-7, 5-5 ASC) with 22 points, including 14 at the charity stripe. Kalin Hanna added a game-high 15 rebounds and six blocks.
Yessenia Cazares gave Howard Payne a 41-39 lead after hitting a layup with 8:44 left in the contest. However, Concordia Texas responded with a 9-2 spurt to grab the advantage for good.
CTX stretched its lead to 51-45 following a pair of free throws by Love. The Lady Jackets then started a run over the next two minutes that cut the lead to one. A free throw by Bradley allowed Howard Payne to pull within 53-52 with 21 seconds remaining. After Fadelle hit a shot from the charity stripe to put Concordia up by two, Bradley tried to tie the game but missed a jumper and Love secured the rebound. She then went to the line and iced the game by hitting two shots.
The Tornados will return to action on Saturday against Sul Ross State. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
