TYLER, Texas – The Concordia University Texas women's basketball team dropped a 73-57 decision to No. 18 Texas-Tyler on Thursday evening at Herrington Patriot Center.
The Tornados (4-7, 3-4 ASC) were unable to overcome the shooting performances of the Patriots (13-1, 8-1 ASC). Texas-Tyler connected on 48 percent (24-for-50) of its shots, including 65.4 percent (17-of-26) in the first half.
Meanwhile, Concordia Texas struggled from downtown, shooting only 11.1 percent (1-for-9). The Tornados shot 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the field.
Isis Johnson paced Concordia with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Nadine Fadelle and
Jazzmin Jackson each joined Johnson in double figures with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Taylor Seals led the Patriots with 18 points.
The Tornados took an early 6-3 lead after Fadelle scored two buckets. However, Texas-Tyler scored the next nine points and never looked back. The Patriots extended their advantage to 17-12 before reeling off a 17-7 run that put the hosts in front by 15. After
Kayla Strobel hit a layup with 52 seconds left in the opening half, Texas-Tyler scored three points from the free-throw line to take a 48-27 lead at halftime.
The Patriots continued to roll in the final period, scoring the first two points to take a 23-point lead. Concordia was able to cut the deficit to 18 after
Ally Terry connected on a free throw with 12:50 to play. However, Texas-Tyler increased its advantage back to 20 on Brittany King's layup with 12:25 remaining.
The Patriots extended their lead to a game-high 24 after Michelle Obach made a layup with 5:29 to play. CTX was able to outscore UT-Tyler 14-7 over the final five minutes, but the Patriots still clinched the 16-point victory.
Concordia will resume its road swing on Saturday at Ozarks. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Clarksville, Ark.
