Softball opens season with doubleheader sweep on Friday

ROUND ROCK, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team swept a doubleheader from Ozarks to open the 2015 campaign on Friday evening at Old Settlers Park. The Tornados captured game one by a score of 7-3, and earned a 10-2 victory in five innings during the nightcap.

Morgan Loredo led the Tornados (2-0, 2-0 ASC) with a 6-for-8 performance at the plate. The Leander native was 4-for-4 with two RBIs in the opener, and she collected two more hits in the nightcap while driving in a run.

Alyssa Autrey finished the day 4-for-7, including a three-hit display in the opening contest.

In the first game, Concordia Texas used a five-run fifth inning to overtake the Lady Eagles (0-2, 0-2 ASC).

Sydney Coffey (1-0) went the distance to earn the victory for the Tornados. The right-hander scattered seven hits, allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out three, while walking a pair.

In the nightcap, Concordia scored in each of its four at-bats en route to a run-rule victory. The Tornados scored one run in both the first and second frames, five in the third and three in the fourth. Ozarks mustered only two in the fourth inning.

Noey Ruiz (1-0) earned the victory after giving up a pair of unearned runs over four panels. Amanda Allard came on to close out the contest by hurling a scoreless inning.

The two teams will close out the series at 12 p.m. Saturday.
