Tornados defeated in regular-season finale on Saturday, 65-55

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Concordia University Texas suffered a 65-55 setback to Texas-Dallas in the final regular season contest of the season on Saturday afternoon at UTD Activity Center.

The Tornados (9-15, 8-12 ASC) shot 40.7 percent from the field, but committed 16 turnovers in the loss.

Camille Horman paced Concordia Texas with 11 points, while Isis Johnson added 10.

The Comets (21-4, 17-3 ASC) received a game-best 18 points from Ashley Shaw.

The Tornados opened the game scoring the first four points. After Texas-Dallas scored six straight, Ashlyn Ward connected on a 3-pointer to give CTX a 7-6 advantage. However, on the ensuing possession, Christina Brosnahan buried a 3-pointer to give the Comets a 9-7 lead.

Kia Love then was able to find her way into the lane and make a layup to allow the Tornados to pull even at 9-all. After nearly two minutes without any scoring, Madi Hess knocked down a 3-pointer that gave Texas-Dallas a 12-9 advantage, one that it would not relinquish in the remainder of the contest.

The Comets pushed their lead to as much as 11 in the opening panel. Concordia was able to chip away and cut the lead to 34-29 at halftime.

Texas-Dallas scored the first six points of the second half to take a 40-29 lead. After Johnson's jumper trimmed the deficit to 45-39 with 13:05 to play, the Comets answered with an 8-0 spurt that pushed the advantage back to double digits.

Texas-Dallas kept its double-digit lead for the rest of the game, increasing it to as much as 17 before winning by 10.

The same two teams will meet in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 26. The Tornados clinched the No. 7 seed, while the Comets earned the second seed. Tip-off for the quarterfinal matchup is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at the Herrington Patriot Center in Tyler.
