Tornados collect back-to-back walk-off wins on Thursday night

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team swept an American Southwest Conference doubleheader from Sul Ross State on Thursday evening. The Tornados won both games in their last at-bats. CTX picked up a 7-6 victory in the opener and earned a 6-5 win in the nightcap.

The Tornados (4-6, 4-4 ASC) overcame a 5-0 deficit in the first game. Concordia Texas scored runs in each of its final four at-bats before plating two in the final frame to earn the victory. Amber Robinson tied the contest with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Sydney Coffey then singled through the middle, sending Amanda Allard across the plate to score the winning run.

In the nightcap, the Lady Lobos (0-10, 0-8 ASC) built a 4-0 lead, but CTX cut it half in the third. Sul Ross State added a run in the fourth, but Concordia got it back a frame later. The Tornados then took advantage of three errors in the seventh to score three runs and earn the victory.

The final stanza started when Amanda Sigala-Lopez drew a walk. However, she was erased from the basepaths as Natalia Macias grounded into a fielder's choice. Morgan Loredo followed with another grounder, but the ball was thrown away, allowing both Macias and Loredo to move into scoring position. Jessica Borrego then hit a ground ball that found its way between a fielder's legs, allowing both runs to score and tie the game at 5-all. After a groundout, Brooke Jones put another ball on the ground that was misplayed, allowing both Jones to reach first base and Borrego to score the winning run.

Jones paced the Tornados with four hits on the day, including three doubles. She also picked up the win in the circle in the nightcap. Jones hurled four innings out of the bullpen, allowing only three hits and a run to pick up her first win of the season.

Amanda Allard (1-0) was the recipient of the win in the first game. The right-hander gave up only a run on four hits over three innings of relief.

The two teams will close out the series at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
