MARSHALL, Texas – East Texas Baptist used a late second half surge to upend the Concordia University Texas men's basketball team 71-66 on Saturday at Ornelas Gym.
WHERE THEY STAND• The Tornados fell to 13-8 overall (9-7 ASC).
• Concordia Texas sits in seventh place in the league standings, only one game behind Texas-Dallas.
• The Tigers moved up to a tie for first place with Hardin-Simmons. ETBU is 17-4 overall (12-4 ASC).
HOW IT HAPPENED• CTX held a 59-58 lead with 4:36 to play, but the Tigers received a 3-pointer from Bret Atkins which put them on top for good.
• Over the final four minutes, ETBU stretched its advantage to as much as eight points, but the Tornados remained close.
• Concordia cut the lead to 69-66 when
Donovan Ford buried a 3-pointer with 44 seconds remaining.
• After a pair of missed free throws by the Tigers, the Tornados failed to convert on their possession.
• ETBU then sealed the game at the free-throw line, hitting two shots in the final 19 seconds.

Andre Potts paced CTX with 19 points, while
Rashad Coleman scored 14 and
Josh Sanchez added 13.
• The Tornados managed to shoot only 31.6 percent (24-of-76) from the floor, including just 26.7 percent (8-for-30) from downtown.
• Jamil Samuel led East Texas Baptist with 13 points and five blocked shots.
COMING UP NEXT• The Tornados will return to Austin next week to open their final home stand of the year.
