AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas baseball team swept a doubleheader from East Texas Baptist on Saturday at Tornado Field. The Tornados won the opener 3-1 and rallied for a 6-5 victory in the nightcap to run their winning streak to eight games and complete the American Southwest Conference (ASC) series sweep.
Concordia Texas (18-4, 13-1 ASC), which has won 14 of its last 15 contests, trailed the finale 5-3 after seven innings. However, the Tornados pulled within a run in the eighth and then scored twice in the ninth to secure the win.
Caleb Rodriguez drove in the game-winning run with a one-out single to left field in the top of the ninth.
Matthew Mundkowsky (1-0) came on with two outs in the eighth and finished the game to earn the victory. The right-hander struck out two of the four batters he faced.
In the opener,
Cameron Cox dazzled again, as the right-hander improved to 6-0 on the season. Cox, who logged his fifth consecutive complete game, allowed just three hits and an unearned run, while fanning eight. The Round Rock native has worked 34 innings without allowing an earned run.
Concordia's offensive attack posted 16 hits combined during the twinbill.
Adam Ortega led with the way with three knocks, including two doubles.
The Tornados will return to action on Friday, March 27, in the series opener against LeTourneau. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
