Tornados drop two games to Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday

CEDAR PARK, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team was swept in an American Southwest Conference doubleheader by I-35 rival Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday. The Tornados dropped the opening game 7-2 and suffered a 10-3 loss in the nightcap.

Concordia Texas (7-15, 7-9 ASC) scored both of its runs in the first game on Blayr Huff's two-run double in the fourth inning, which cut the deficit to 4-2 at the time. However, the Cru (11-7, 10-5 ASC) plated two runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh to secure the victory.

In the nightcap, UMHB held a 5-3 lead after six frames, but the Cru scored five times in the seventh to pull away for the seven-run win.

The Tornados jumped out to an early lead when Valerie Gonzales registered a run-scoring single in the first.

Mary Hardin-Baylor then scored four times in the fourth and once in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.

CTX loaded the bases in the fifth and Brooke Jones logged a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to three. In the following inning, Alyssa Autrey picked up a sacrifice fly to get the Tornados within two.

However, the Cru plated four runs in the final panel and held CTX scoreless in the bottom-half to secure the sweep.

The two teams will close out the series with a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
