Hardin-Simmons rallies past Concordia Texas on Sunday, 11-5

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the fourth inning and scored 10 unanswered runs to earn an 11-5 victory over the Concordia University Texas softball team on Saturday at Ellis Field. It also allowed the Cowgirls to complete the American Southwest Conference series sweep.

The Tornados (4-9, 4-7 ASC) scored all five of their runs in the fourth to take a four-run lead.

However, Hardin-Simmons (6-7, 3-6 ASC) responded in the bottom of the frame with four runs to pull even.

The Cowgirls then took the lead with three runs in the subsequent frame, and the hosts tacked on three more in the sixth.

Concordia Texas had only two hits after its five-run outburst in the fourth.

Sydney Coffey and Amber Robinson each logged a pair of hits to pace the Tornados' offensive efforts. Coffey also had a double and drove in a run.

Jessica Borrego posted a double and drove in a run, while Brooke Jones and Amanda Sigala-Lopez each collected a single.

Shelby Burrus (0-3) took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits over 2.1 panels of relief.

Concordia will return to action on Wednesday, March 18, in a non-conference doubleheader at Texas Lutheran.
