SAN ANTONIO – The eighth-ranked Concordia University Texas baseball team suffered an 11-3 setback at the hands of No. 13 Trinity in non-conference action Wednesday night.
The Tornados (20-6) were limited to six hits in the contest.
Michael Evan led the way with a 2-for-3 performance that included a solo home run. The freshman outfielder also scored twice.
Cameron Cox drove in a run, while
Luke Kress was 1-for-4 with a stolen base.
The Tigers (19-8) received seven strong frames from left-handed starter Ryan Gray, who improved to 4-0 on the season. Gray scattered five hits, allowed one run, walked one and struck out nine.
CTX opened the scoring in the first inning, as Evan belted a solo shot to left field. However, Trinity pulled even in the bottom of the frame on Butler's RBI groundout.
The Tigers grabbed the lead for good in the third, as Wolf hit a solo home run.
Trinity added three runs in the fifth inning, including a pair on Carter McEachern's single. The Tigers then blew the game wide open in the seventh, as the hosts sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six times to take an 11-1 lead.
The Tornados picked up two runs in the ninth, including one on Cox's pinch-hit RBI single.
Ragan Pope (3-2) was handed the loss, as the southpaw yielded two runs on six hits in the first three panels. Pope was one of eight pitchers used by Concordia Texas on the night.
The two teams will meet again on Friday night in Austin. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tornado Field.
