RICHARDSON, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team dropped the American Southwest Conference series opener at Texas-Dallas Sunday night, 13-7.
The Tornados (7-25, 7-17 ASC) committed four errors in the contest.
The Comets (12-18, 8-16 ASC), who now hold a one-game lead over Concordia Texas for the final spot in the upcoming ASC Tournament, scored four times in the opening frame to take an early advantage.
The Tornados got on the board in the second after
Blayr Huff hit a run-scoring single to right field.
However, Texas-Dallas scored twice in the following panel.
After CTX plated a pair of runs in the fourth, the Comets scored two more in the bottom of the inning. Both teams added three runs apiece in the fifth.
Chelsea Cyphers drove in two on a double to right center and Huff, who had three hits on the night, tallied another RBI single in the stanza.
Texas-Dallas picked up its final two runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 13-6.
Concordia managed one final score in the seventh, as
Jessica Borrego doubled and then scored on
Noey Ruiz's single.
Sydney Coffey (2-9) was charged with the loss after yielding seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings.
The two teams will close out the set with a doubleheader Monday. First pitch of the middle game of the series is slated for 12 p.m.
