Comets capture doubleheader sweep of Tornados on Monday

RICHARDSON, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team dropped both ends of an American Southwest Conference doubleheader against Texas-Dallas on Monday. The Comets won the first contest by a score of 6-1 and earned a 7-1 victory in the nightcap to complete the series sweep.

The Tornados (7-27, 7-19 ASC) were led at the plate by Jessica Borrego, who recorded three hits in the twinbill. Borrego was 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot in the opening contest, and she added a single in the finale.

In the opener, Concordia Texas took a 1-0 lead in the second, as Morgan Loredo singled and then later scored on a wild pitch.

However, it was the last run the Tornados were able to muster in the contest.

Texas-Dallas (14-18, 10-16 ASC) plated five runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to pull away and clinch the series.

Shelby Burrus (1-6) took the loss after giving up five runs on six hits over four innings of work.

The Comets jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the final game of the set, as the hosts scored four times in the first and twice in the second.

Concordia plated its lone run in the fourth, as Alyssa Autrey singled to left field, which drove in Loredo.

Texas-Dallas added a final tally in the sixth to take a six-run advantage.

Sydney Coffey (2-10) was handed the loss in the nightcap, as the right-handed yield four runs on four hits in one inning.

The Tornados will close out the season this weekend at LeTourneau. The series is scheduled to open with a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.
