LONGVIEW, Texas – The Concordia University Texas softball team split an American Southwest Conference (ASC) doubleheader with LeTourneau on Saturday. The YellowJackets won the opening contest 7-4, but the Tornados claimed the night cap 8-2.
Concordia Texas (8-28, 8-20 ASC) snapped a 17-game losing streak with the win in the middle game of the set.
The Tornados scored five runs in the fifth inning to take control of the final game of the twinbill.
Amanda Allard improved to 3-3 in the circle after allowing only two runs and seven hits. At the plate, she also was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Amber Robinson was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and two stolen bases.
Brooke Jones and
Amanda Sigala-Lopez both tallied a pair of hits.
In the opener, LeTourneau (16-20, 10-17 ASC) received a walk-off, three-run homer from Megan Hill to collect the victory.
Concordia scored a pair of marks in the top of the seventh to force the YellowJackets to return to the plate before the walk-off home run.
Sydney Coffey collected a sacrifice fly, allowing Sigala-Lopez to score from third base, and Jones hit an RBI single to right field, which tied the contest.
Jones finished 3-for-4 and drove in a run. Robinson and
Blayr Huff each tallied a pair of knocks.
The two teams will close out the series at 1 p.m. Sunday.
