AUSTIN, Texas – The ninth-ranked Concordia University Texas baseball team was eliminated by Texas-Dallas, 9-8, in the American Southwest Conference Tournament Saturday at Tornado Field.
The Tornados (31-12) trailed 5-0 in the third inning, but scored seven consecutive runs, including four in the seventh to take a 7-5 lead.
However, the Comets (29-16) answered with two runs in the eighth to pull even and two more in the ninth to grab a 9-7 advantage.
Concordia Texas threatened in the bottom of the frame, but only managed one more run.
The Tornados collected 12 hits on the day.
Ragan Pope was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, while
Cole Calder,
Connor Bertsch and
Race Mellman also had a pair of hits each.
Cameron Cox and
Gareth Hutton both drove in two runs.
Texas-Dallas advanced to the ASC Tournament Championship, before falling 6-5 to top-seed Texas-Tyler.
Concordia, which is ranked fifth in the latest NCAA West Region rankings, will have to wait until Sunday night to see if it will receive an at-large bid to the Division III Regional. The announcement will be made via press release on NCAA.com at 11 p.m. Sunday.
