BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas – The Concordia University Texas Tornados volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision Tuesday night against the visiting Southwestern Pirates.
The Tornados started strong, going toe-to-toe with the Pirates in the opening set. Southwestern would win by the minimum, 25-23, however, and stayed in control the remainder of the match.
Katie Baker and
Jordan Redmond steered the Concordia with seven and six kills, respectively.
Lexi Perez paced the match with 19 digs in her collegiate debut.
The Pirates came out on fire, starting the second set on a 14-3 spurt. The Tornados were able to regroup after a timeout and got the frame as close as nine points.
Concordia was, however, able to stave off a few Southwestern rallies, coming back from an eight point deficit in the third set. The Pirates took a 19-11 lead, but the Tornados were able to rally within five at 20-15. Southwestern hung on to win the closer 25-18.
