BOX SCORE AUSTIN, Texas -- An overtime goal by Alejandro Labastida was the difference in Concordia's 3-2 win over Hardin-Simmons as the Tornados improved to 8-3 on the season.
The teams were knotted up at 2-2 at the end of regulation, which included goals by both teams in the last 12 minutes. The first five minutes overtime period was all Concordia and Alejandro Lasbastida needed to seal the win as he faked out the Cowboys' goalkeeper and shot left past him for the game-winning goal.
Hardin-Simmons took the lead in the first half scoring a goal in the 22nd minute. Concordia had a tough first half offensively totaling only two shots in the period, but the match was far from over. The Cowboys led 1-0 at the break..
The Tornados upped the intensity in the second half, totaling nine shots in the period alone. In the 68th minute, Diego Outerial tied the score at 1-1 with a sliding goal off an assist from Omar Aguirre. The Cowboys tried to take the lead in the 71st minute, but goalkeeper Rob Oakley was there for the save to keep the score at 1-1.
The Tornados gained the lead in the 78th minute after multiple shots finally led to a goal by Alex Bridges converted a rebound from an earlier shot by Nash Cole. Hardin-Simmons wasted no time to tie the game at 2-2 as they scored the game-tying goal in the 81st, setting up the overtime.
Concordia had nine shots on goal overall, along with four corner kicks, while Oakley had seven saves on the night in his first career win.
Up next, the Tornados will host McMurry Saturday night at St. Stephen's Episcopal School.
