BOX SCORE 2 AUSTIN, Texas -- Amid fanfare, festive decorations and a nearly packed house, the Concordia Texas softball program opened its brand new facility on its campus. Unfortunately, Louisiana College would walk away victors in both contests.
GAME ONE - LC 3, CTX 0Despite a strong performance from starter
Sydney Coffey, the Tornados (0-2, 0-2 ASC) were unable to overcome defensive miscues in a 3-0 loss in game one Friday at the Tornado Softball Field.
The Wildcats (3-2, 2-0) scored two runs on Heather Simmons' RBI single. Pinch runner Alyssa Ross would score on a CTX error in the fifth.
Concordia got their first baserunner on a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first. Later,
Angelica Arroyo would record the first Tornado hit on their true home turf in the bottom of the third. CTX would go on to add three more hits, but they were unable to score. Coffey suffered the loss while Savannah Settle earned the win.
GAME TWO - LC 4, CTX 3Concordia scored the first run on an RBI single by
Brooke Jones in the bottom of the first. The Tornados went up 2-0 on the first of two RBI from
Haley Dennett.
Louisiana College answered with one in the top of the third on an RBI triple from Jordan Mason. The Wildcats tied the game on a leadoff inside-the-park homer from Jayde Westbrook in the sixth.
LC added two more runs in the top of the seventh, first on an RBI single from Simmons and later on a CTX error.
The Tornados would open the home half of the seventh with the bases loaded and no outs. Dennett drove in one run on a one-out sacrifice fly, but CTX would leave the potential tying and winning runs in scoring position.
The same two teams return to action tomorrow for another twin bill starting at Noon at the Tornado Softball Field.
