BOX SCORE 2 AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas softball team fought back in both contests Saturday, but it wouldn't be enough as Louisiana College swept the twin bill, 5-2 and 4-2.
GAME 1 - LC 5, CTX 2The Wildcats (5-1, 3-0 ASC) drew first blood in the top of the third when Sydney Bergeron came around to score on an RBI single by Heather Simmons.
Tornado (0-4, 0-3) hurler
Noey Ruiz worked out of further trouble in the frame, stranding two LC runners. However, the Wildcats would capitalize on a CTX error to make it a 2-0 contest after four innints.
Louisiana opened the game up on Elani Woods' two-run double in the top of the sixth, capping a three-run frame for the visitors.
Concordia showed some life in the bottom of the seventh after
Ryan Gibson and
Angelica Arroyo both tallied RBI hits with two outs. Gibson tried to score on Arroyo's double, but was tagged out at the plate ending the game.
Ruiz was saddled with the loss while Savannah Settle earned the win.
GAME 2 - LC 4, CTX 2The Tornados scored the first and last runs of the series finale Saturday, however the Wildcats put four across the plate in between to leave Austin with a sweep.
CTX scored on
Haley Dennett's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first and retained a 1-0 lead until LC scored twice in both the top of the fifth and sixth frames.
The Wildcats cashed in on a lead-off triple, wild pitch and a Tornado error for their first two runs. The second pair came after Louisiana opened the sixth with a double. Morgan Stine would deliver the eventual game-winning hit with a two-run, two-out double.
Concordia had runners on second and third with one out.
Kennedy Coffin drove in the second Tornado run on a sacrifice fly to deep right.
CTX returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 17, when they host Southwestern for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
