BOX SCORE 2 AUSTIN, Texas – It didn't take long for the Concordia Texas softball team to earn its first victories on Wednesday evening. The Tornados took advantage of Southwestern defensive miscues to sweep the twin bill.
GAME ONE – CTX 6, Southwestern 4
Concordia earned its first-ever win at Tornado Softball Field with a 6-4 victory over Southwestern.
Brooke Jones was 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in four of CTX's six runs.
The Pirates and Tornados traded a two-run frame in the first. Concordia then added two more in the second. The score would hold at 4-2 until Southwestern plated two in the top of the fourth.
CTX tallied the eventual game-winner in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI from Jones. The Tornados added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Southwestern threatened in the top of the seventh, putting two on with two down, but reliever Lauren Camacho was able to work out of trouble, stranding two.
Noey Ruiz earned the victory in relief while Camacho picked up the save.
GAME TWO – CTX 3, SU 2
The Tornados earned a walk-off victory in Wednesday's nightcap courtesy of a Pirate error. After Emma Martino slapped a one-out single, she went to first on a sacrifice bunt. Morgan Loredo then reached on an error which also allowed Martino to come around for the winning run.
Concordia grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, initially off a wild pitch then on an RBI double from Haley Dennett.
CTX held on until the top of the sixth, when Southwestern was able to tie the game, capitalizing on a pair of Tornado errors.
Shelby Burrus came away with the win while Isabella Robb suffered the loss.
The Tornados return to conference play Friday at Sul Ross State. The twin bill begins at 3 p.m.
