BOX SCORE 2 ALPINE, Texas -- The Concordia Texas softball team split its first road contest of 2016 Friday at Sul Ross State. After falling 7-2 in the opener, the Tonados downed the Lady Lobos in the finale, 11-10.
GAME ONE - SRSU 7, CTX 2Concordia (3-5,.1-4 ASC) scored the game's first and last runs but unfornately surrendered seven Sul Ross (1-5, 1-5) tallies in between.
Jackie Gonzalez was the key to the Lady Lobos' win, holding the Tornado offense to two runs on six hits in the complete-game victory. She was also 2-for-2 at the plate with a solo homer and an RBI double.
CTX scored on an RBI single from
Brooke Jones in the top of the first and on a SRSU error in the top of the sixth.
Emma Martino was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Sydney Coffey suffered the loss for the Tornados.
GAME TWO - CTX 11, SR 10The Tornados had to work from down 10-6 after three innings to earn a hard-fought 11-10 victory in the nightcap.
Ryan Gibson was 4-for-5 with two RBI, including a solo homer in the top of the fourth. She led a CTX offense that scattered 14 hits.
Emma Martino and
Brooke Jones added three hits each.
Amanda Sigala-Lopez was 0-for-3 but drove in three, two of which came on a Sul Ross error in the top of the sixth, tying the game at 10.
Sigala-Lopez later came around to score on an RBI groundout by
Alyssa Autrey.
The Lady Lobos were able to put runners on the corners with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Coffey was able to work out of trouble, connecting with Sigala-Lopez to cut down the potential tying run at the plate on a fielder's choice. Coffey then stranded the winning run at third, forcing Isaura Rodriguez to pop out to second.
Coffey earned the win in four innings of relief work.
The teams play the rubber match of the series tomorrow at noon at Lady Lobo Field.
