BOX SCORE 2 AUSTIN, Texas -- The Concordia Texas softball team dropped both games of Thursday's twin bill to No. 5 East Texas Baptist at Tornado Softball Field.
In game one,
Shelby Burrus settled after falling into a 7-0 hole, keeping the Tigers off the board the rest of the way. In the nightcap, the Tornados entered the sixth with a 4-2 lead, but the ETBU bats exploded for six runs on eight hits to effectively put the game away.
GAME ONE – ETBU 7, CTX 1The Tigers scored two in the top of the first and then after a single run in the second, they used a three-run homer from Linzie Lewis to put her squad up 6-0 after two innings. ETBU added an insurance run in the third, but after that CTX starter
Shelby Burrus kept the visitors off the scoreboard.
The Tornados got on the board in the fifth after
Sydney Coffey took home while one of her teammates was caught trying to steal second. CTX threatened in the seventh with the bases loaded and one down but could not cut away at ETBU's lead any further.
GAME TWO – ETB 9, CTX 4The Tornados had grabbed an early 2-1 lead after
Ryan Gibson and
Samantha Zamarripa drove in runs on a single and a groundout, respectively.
ETBU tied the game back up at two in the second.
After an uneventful third, CTX cashed in on a Tiger error when
Alyssa Autrey drove in
Brooke Jones. The Tornados utilized another ETBU miscue when Coffey led off the fifth with a double and came around to score after a bad throw in from the outfield, giving the home side a 4-2 advantage.
That set the stage for a big top of the sixth for the Tigers, during which the visitors scored six runs on eight hits and sent 10 to the plate. Sadly, the Tornados were never able to recover.
The two squads conclude the three-game set tomorrow at noon.
