BOX SCORE 2 JACKSON, Miss. – The Concordia Texas softball team lost the resumption of Friday's second contest, 5-3, and Saturday's full game, 7-2 at Belhaven Saturday afternoon.
Morgan Loredo and Brooke Jones both tallied three hits across the two games while Samantha Zamarripa tallied two RBI.
GAME ONE – Belhaven 5. CTX 3
The game picked up in the top of the fourth with two down after an injury to the umpire yesterday resulted in the halt.
Concordia (5-12) got on the board first when Morgan Loredo smashed an RBI double then coming around to score as the result of a Belhaven error Friday. Ryan Gibson had an RBI sacrifice the day before to make it 3-0 Tornados at the point of suspension, but once things resumed Saturday, Belhaven (10-5) took control.
Both teams were quiet in the fifth inning, but the Blazers scored five on four hits in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. The frame started with a double and a single. Runs came across on a bases-loaded hit batter, a wild pitch and two RBI doubles.
Concordia was unable to answer in the top of the seventh.
GAME TWO – Blazers 7, Tornados 2
Belhaven didn't bat in the home half of the seventh in the opening game, but they plated five runs in their very next at-bat, the bottom of the first in Saturday's finale.
Two two-out, two-run home runs proved to be the big blows in the frame for the Blazers.
The Tornados' Samantha Zamarripa would smash a two-run bomb to put her team on the board in the top of the fourth, making it 5-2 Belhaven.
The Blazers got both runs back with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Concordia returns to action March 11 against LeTourneau. First pitch of the twin-bill is at 4 p.m. at Tornado Softball Field.
