BOX SCORE GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Concordia Texas men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 setback at Southwestern to open up the 2016 season Thursday.
The Pirates (1-0) struck first early on in the contest, when SU's Ben Larson found the back of the net in the fifth minute. The Tornados (0-1) would answer quickly, however, when sophomore Rolando Hernandez drove in the equalizer just 16 minutes later.
It looked like the score would remain a 1-1 stalemate at the break, but SU's Andres Carreño-Mendez drove a header into the back of the net with just 10 seconds left in the half. Carreño-Mendez's tally would prove to be the difference, although Southwestern added a goal in the 79th minute.
CTX keeper Jesus Barrera made three saves in the losing effort.
