BOX SCORE

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- In a physical battle throughout, Concordia Texas scored early in the first half on the way to a 2-0 win over Millsaps College on Saturday afternoon at Varsity Field on the campus of Southwestern University. With the win, the Tornados are now 1-1 on the season.

The Tornados were attack mode all day totaling nine shots on goal, including five in the first half. Junior forward Fabian Billings put Concordia up early in the 13th minute taking Millsaps' senior goalkeeper Johnathan Huebbe one-on-one shooting it left past him for the goal.

Just before halftime, a rough tackle by the Majors' junior defender Mickey Domangue led to a yellow card, but the score remained 1-0 at the half.

In the second half, the physicality between both teams continued as Concordia sophomore forward Rolando Hernandez was given a yellow card in the 55th minute after a hard tackle. Millsaps freshman Gabriel Ryce followed with his own yellow card in the 63rd minute, becoming the third yellow given out on the day.

The Tornados didn't lose focus in the second half, despite the physical play, as junior forward Isaiah Coombs took a through pass by sophomore forward Omar Aguirre putting it right past the goalie in the 74th minute to secure a 2-0 lead.

The Majors had a chance to salvage a goal in the 87th minute after a Tornados foul in the box warranted a penalty kick, but junior goalkeeper Jesus Barrera was there for the save, keeping the shutout. Frustration boiled over for Millsaps in the 88th minute as sophomore defender Nat Edwards was ejected, leaving the Majors with 10 men on the field as the game to a close.

Concordia returns to Georgetown taking on Houston-Victoria at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
