AUSTIN, Texas - The Concordia men's basketball team, led by
Ephriam Price's career-high eight threes, held off Hardin-Simmons late winning 95-89 on Saturday afternoon.
Â
Price would finish with a game-high 30 points for the Tornados, while
Joe Neal and
Ben Page each had a double-double. Neal flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, while Page had 13 points and 15 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end. The Cowboys came into the matchup with the best record in the conference, but CTX tallied a season-high 50 rebounds to help end HSU's nine-game winning streak.Â
Â
In the first half, the Tornados were down 7-5 early, but went on an 11-2 run capped off by a
Joshua Samuels' three-pointer to take a 16-9 lead with 14:35 left. Samuels would finish with 16 points, including being 4-5 from behind the arc. The game remained close throughout the half, as
Rashad Coleman's two free-throws gave CTX a slight lead at 27-26 with 9:01 remaining. After a Price three-pointer, the Cowboys would answer with a 10-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 42-33 with 4:11 remaining. CTX would open the second half on an 11-2, capped by a
Payton Barnes layup to lead 62-51 with 16 minutes left. The Tornados continued to maintain a double-digit lead and took their largest lead of the game at 73-59 after a Neal layup and the free-throw with 11:46 remaining. But HSU would not go quietly, cutting in the CTX's lead and made it a two-point game with 4:04 left to play. But the Tornados, who went 22-30 from the free-throw line, would knock six of their final seven shots from the line to secure a 95-89 victory over the Cowboys.
