Tornados fall to LeTourneau in overtime

LONGVIEW, Texas - The Concordia Women's basketball team went to overtime against LeTourneau, but was unable to grab the lead losing 69-66 on Thursday night.

The Tornados (9-4, 2-3 ASC) led 55-48 midway through the fourth quarter but the Yellowjackets (7-7, 5-2 ASC) rallied and hit a three-pointer in the final minute to tie it all up at 58 and force overtime. CTX struggled from the field all night shooting 33.8 percent overall and were 3-27 from behind the arc. Jaela Dejean finished with 25 points, including being a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line and had eight rebounds on the night. Emily Cullers was 3-13 from behind the arc, but had 13 points and eight rebounds too.

The Tornados were down 2-0 early before going on a 9-2 run to take their first lead of the game. LETU would climb back though to tie it at 13 apiece at the end of one quarter. The second quarter was a back and forth affair with neither team able to create separation. The Yellowjackets were able to get a layup to go in the final 15 seconds to take a 30-28 halftime lead.

In the second half, CTX was not fazed as they outscored LETU 20-12 in the third quarter including a 13-6 run to close out the quarter. Mercedes Ellison had 10 of her 12 points in the third quarter alone and the Tornados took a 48-42 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Dejean had seven of the team's 10 points scored in the quarter, but the rest of team shot 1-15 from the field and were tied with LETU at 58-all at the end of the quarter. In the overtime period, Brenisha Payne gave CTX an early 60-58 lead, but the Yellowjackets went on a 7-2 to regain the lead they would not relinquish as the Tornados lost 69-66.

The Tornados returned to conference play after competing in the Pikes Peak Holiday Classic in Colorado Springs, Colo., during the winter break. This was the first game of a three-game road trip for CTX. They will head to Tyler, Texas, to face UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
