Tornados split matches in ASC Crossover

ABILENE, Texas – The Concordia Texas volleyball team split two matches Saturday in round two of the ASC Crossover Saturday, falling 3-1 to #21 UT Dallas before knocking off LeTourneau 3-0.

With the split, the Tornados moved to 12-8, 10-3 in the ASC on the year. The 10 conference wins are the most for CTX since 2007.

In the first match, the Tornados were unable to keep pace with UT Dallas in the first two sets, losing 25-16 and 25-16. CTX bounced back with a set win in the third set 25-22 to make the score 2-1.

The Tornados were unable to complete the comeback, however, as the Comets won set four 25-21.

Marissa Stinson led the way for CTX with 12 kills in the match while recording an impressive .478 hitting percentage. Sydney Dudney and Kelly Farina both picked up over 20 digs in the loss as Dudney produced 22 and Farina added 20.

The Tornados bounced back from the loss with a sweep of LeTourneau.

CTX used an 11-2 run early in the first set to separate and grab a 25-12 victory. The Tornados hit .406 as a team in the set while holding the Yellowjackets to .031.

In set two, CTX was able to grab an early 15-10 lead and keep LeTourneau at arms-length to win 25-18.

Farina, a sophomore from Spring, Texas, produced 11 kills in the win to lead the team. She had four kills in the decisive 25-14 third set win for the Tornados.

Setter Georgia Quiroz picked up 31 assists in just three sets while also racking up 10 digs and three kills for a double-double.

Next up, CTX will head to Belton, Texas for a match with Mary Hardin-Baylor at 6 p.m.
